Easter Lilies and Eggs

I hope those of you who celebrate Easter had a very happy day. I'm enjoying the fragrance of the Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum) on our breakfast table this year. I was wondering if I could plant it in my garden, so I checked and saw the MSS at Zanthan Gardens has written a great deal of information about the lily here. Edit: MSS points out that her entry is actually about "LA hybrids, which are Longiflorum lilies (like the Easter lily) crossed with Asiatic lilies. This hybrid is more hardy in the garden. It does not, however (like the Asiatics) have a scent." Thanks MSS!

The day before Easter, my son and I dyed 8 hardboiled eggs using a PAAS kit. I read the PAAS site and learned that the company has been around for 125 years! PAAS is short for Passen, the Pennsylvania Dutch word for "Easter".

Our dyed eggs turned out pretty well; though a couple were a bit spotty...

Our friends in Scotland sent my son a lovely box of Easter treasures which I put in the basket on the right in the photo below. The rest of the bounty was from our local U.S. Easter Bunny...

My garden surprise this morning was a visit from a uniquely dark Texas Spiny Lizard. I'd never seen one this dark before. Not sure if it's his natural coloring or if he's darker when he's feeling cooler.

Happy Easter!

"I think of the garden after the rain; And hope to my heart comes singing,
'At morn the cherry-blooms will be white,
And the Easter bells be ringing!'" ~

Happy Easter! I think even here in Indiana, people can plant Easter Lilies outside, though I don't know how successful they are at getting them to rebloom. They wouldn't bloom at Easter, but might bloom mid-summer.

It looks like you had a good Easter.

Dear MSS,
Oops! I wonder if I should try to plant this lily in my garden at any rate.

Hi Carol,
I wasn't sure if it gets too hot for the lily here. I think I'll plant it. The worst that can happen is that it dies.

Thanks Lisa,
It was a very pleasant and low-key Easter here. My son enjoyed the chocolate and watching some new movies he received from the Easter Bunny.

Happy Easter!

Wow! Looks like Christmas instead of Easter at your house!

I have planted a couple of Easter lillies in my garden here in Round Rock, and they have done great. They have just started to bud--they usually always miss Easter for blooming. They have grown a couple of little babies each, and seem to be quite happy outside.

Dear Morning Glories,Yes, one would never suspect there is only one child living in my house if they saw that table full of baskets. We do have it bad, don't we? LOL!
;-)

Thank you for letting me know about your Easter Lilies. That gives me hope for mine.

Happy Gardening!

Hi Dawn,
I am glad that you had a pleasant Easter. I did too, because I was with my family (did not have to go into the store to work).
I too have these lizards in my front yard and back gardens. They have been on my property for at least 6 years and they are growing quite large. They seem to keep to a certain territory, but that is just an observation. The "front lizard (and largest) startles my family almost every day. He loves living just outside of our front door and scuttles through the plantings. He gets larger and sounds heavier each year. There are a couple of others in the back yard and I saw a really new small one today, perched on one of my pillows on my steamer chaise! very cute. You took a great pic of yours. Thanks,
chriss

It looks like you had a lovely Easter. The painted eggs look so pretty and also the lilies, I have some in a vase here at the moment.
I love your lizard what a handsome chap!

The Easter Lilies are lovely and look wonderful surrounded by the Easter Bunny loot. I didn't realise that the Paas company name stood for Passen. Interesting tidbit of info. I like your dyed eggs because you've got bright colours... my preferred (my son doesn't like leaving them in the dye for long so they usually come out looking pastel in colour.) Love the lizard ~ I wish I had some in my garden!!
