Fredericksburg Outing

Last Saturday I went to Fredericksburg, Texas with a friend and her daughter. Fredericksburg was founded by German immigrants in 1846. Today it's a favorite place for people in the area to go shopping for antiques and other goodies.

Along the sidewalk I noticed this mystery plant...
The flowers reminded me of a penstemon, but as usual I've no idea what it is.
Edit: Annie in Austin says it looks like Mexican oregano. Thanks again, Annie! :-)

Just down the street was this sweet horse buggy.

Saturday was a lovely day and the shops weren't too crowded. The plethora of stores on Fredericksburg's Main Street is mind-boggling. I liked this lamp...

And these carved wood panels...

I may go back and get a couple next week. I'm not much of a spontaneous purchaser.

The drive to and from Fredericksburg is always beautiful. We saw lots of farm animals, a couple buffalo, llama and even an ostrich on the various farms as we drove along. I'm hoping we'll attend the Fredericksburg Oktoberfest next weekend. It should be fun. Oompah!

Beautiful pictures! The Oktoberfest is going on in Munich for one more week, but I haven't made it there yet. I kind of shy away from the crowds, but hope will have a great time there in Fredricksburg. /andrea

Thanks Annie!
I imagined you'd know the name of this plant. You are a wealth of botanical knowledge, Dear Lady. :-)

I love Fredericksburg! You're right that there is always something new to see and do. Someday soon I'd like to take my son to see Enchanted Rock. I've heard the view is fabulous.

Hi Andrea!
I know what you mean about avoiding crowds. Still, attending Oktoberfest in Munich would be a dream come true for me. I cannot imagine what a wonderful experience it would be. I do hope you're able to attend someday soon.

Happy Gardening!

Hi Dawn!
LOVE your blog & Fredericksburg is a regular vacation spot for us! In fact that's where we were married - underneath the wisteria arbor in the little park where the museum is! Our favorite B & B there is Maner Cabin - way off in the middle of nowhere but so peaceful! My youngest son goes to UT in Austin & will graduate in December! Thanks so much for visiting my blog & I'm so happy to meet you!

Thank you, Kathy!
I'm so glad you stopped by. It's a pleasure to meet another Texas blogger. Everyone who visits your blog is in for quite a treat. Your house and garden are quite lovely. I'm going to include a link from my blog if that's okay.

I've always wanted to stay in a B&B in Fredericksburg. It sounds very romantic.

Cheers!
Dawn

Annie is right. The mystery plant is a Mexican oregano.

I adore Fredericksburg. Your photos sure do look autumnal, the last one in particular. Is it cooler out there?

Hi Pam!
I'm not sure what their temperatures have been there over-all. It was pretty hot on Saturday.

Beautiful photos of the countryside and the town and the amazing shopping...in fact, it makes me want to plan a trip! Have fun at Oktoberfest - I think we're going to do the New Braunfels one a little later in the month. Enjoy!

Browsing a historic shop is something I rarely get to do. I've always enjoyed it.

Your photos are beautiful, especially the last one showing fall color. The reflection of the blue sky on the water is fantastic.

Yolanda Elizabeth,
It is a quaint old town. I really love it.

Thanks Diana,
Have a great time in New Braunfels this weekend. I've never been to their Oktoberfest.

Hi Mary!
I learned to love museums (or goose-eggs as my step-sister and I used to call them) from my parents. Now I go happily to historic sites that my mom would have had to drag me to. I hope you get to visit some of your favorites very soon.

Happy Oktoberfest!
Dawn
