Off to Galveston and an Update

Copyright © 2007-2009. Suburban Wildlife Garden. All Rights Reserved.

First an update on my cat, Mariah: She is much improved; having almost finished with her antibiotics and is eating on her own. I'm extremely relieved since it was a bit touch and go there for a while. She and Lily will stay at the vet clinic for boarding as we travel to Galveston.

We are renting the same beach house as last year. I'm sure we'll see a lot of differences in the island since Hurricane Ike hit, but we're told the portion of the beach we're staying on is now clean & safe. I'll share photos when I return.

Hope all of you are having a lovely summer.

Your Mariah reminds me of my beloved childhood Siamese cat, Cocoa; glad to hear she's doing better. I like your photo of the beach + seaweed. I don't understand why seaweed on the beach bothers some people so much - it seems so natural to me (maybe because I grew up near the Gulf Coast?). I haven't been back to Galveston in years - looking forward to a full report when you return.

Hello Caroline,
It's always good to meet a fellow Siamese admirer. The seaweed doesn't bother us at all, either. I'm much more concerned about finding needles, sharp glass or some other man made nasties on the beach. When we take beach-walks we bring along a garbage bag to pick up any debris we see. We observed many others doing the same along the beaches in Galveston. I hope you visit Galveston soon. It was lovely!

Thanks Linds,
And Welcome! :-)

Dear Wildlife Gardener,
You are a dear. Mariah gave us all quite a scare; poor little girl, she was very ill. It's so good to see her fiesty again.

I cannot wait to get back to reading your blog as well as everyone elses. Between health issues and problems with my son's one-on-one assistant (she didn't show up this fall), things have been a bit nuts. But I miss all my gardening friends!

Hello Quu,
Mariah is fit as a fiddle. The only sign that she was ever ill is a rather odd one: the once solid chocolate points on her face are now peppered with grey fur. This lighter fur seemed to come in almost overnight. I'm hoping it will all grow out and disappear once she's been well for a long while.

Here's to some cooler weather and...

Happy Fall Gardening!
Dawn

Hope your cats forgave you for the vet boarding, LOL! Love the planter box in the bed itself--it adds height but still looks natural. I'd never thought of doing that, but I like it!
