The Mirror is Up!

Someone finally helped me get my wooden mirror up on the dining room wall today. Thank goodness my cats approve. ;-) Actually, I don't usually allow Mariah and Lily on to the buffet -- nor tables, counters, or any other food-serving surface -- but I wanted to give a sense of proportion to the photo. Plus they pose really well.

I was planning on using Robin of Get Grounded's "go-to guy", (who remodeled her beautiful kitchen), to put up my mirror. However, I was surprised today when the first mirror company I'd contacted sent someone over to put it up in record time. I'm still going to hire Robin's carpenter for a tricky kitchen project. So thanks again, Robin, for recommending Mr. G, because I'm determined to use him.

Anyway, I am relieved my mirror is off the floor and on the wall where it belongs.

Though I have the uneasy feeling that I've now raised the decorating bar, so to speak, and will have to upgrade a few things here and there.

Ah well. Thank goodness for consignment stores.

"In another moment Alice was through the glass, and had jumped lightly down into the Looking-glass room. The very first thing she did was to look whether there was a fire in the fireplace, and she was quite pleased to find that there was a real one, blazing away as brightly as the one she had left behind." Thanks Lisa,I'm certainly relieved the project is finished. Now I just have to convince the cats they can't get back on the buffet for another photo-op. ;-)

It does look like the one Alice went through! I'm glad you were successful in finding someone to get the mirror up, Dawn.
We're on the hunt for a plumber for a bathroom remodel project, but that got sidetracked by the hailed-on roof.

I'm also wondering if that photo shoot will make the cats think it's okay to be on the buffet. Heard someone say that cat brains are all hardware and no software ;-]

Dawn, that mirror and console table is stunning together. Congratulations on getting it up and good work on choosing them in the first place. How awesome that you found it at a consignment store. And I'm very happy that Jamie can help you with your kitchen project; I hope you give us a post about it so I can see. Wow, decorating indoors and outdoors is both fun, isn't it?

Dawn -- the mirror is perfect there -- what a lovely match those two pieces make. I can't imagine how heavy that mirror must be; I know you are relieved to have it hanging.

Dear Annie,Once the mirror was up I immediately thought of Alice Through the Looking-Glass. I wonder if The Queen of Hearts is in there somewhere. Luckily the cats haven't jumped back up on the buffet again...though I doubt Lily could if she wanted to (she's a wee bit too large around the center. Heehee!).

Good luck searching for a plumber for your bathroom. Both the bane & fun of house-ownership: the projects never seem to stop.

Hi Robin! (of getgrounded)It is fun! Jamie was here last week and has agreed to remove my kitchen island. Actually it's so small I call it my "islette". ;-) I cannot wait! I've been dodging this thing for almost 3 years. Thanks again for recommending him to me. Woohoo!

Thanks Diana,It is a relief to have the project finished and enjoy the mirror now. It is an incredibly heavy piece. I was glad Texas Mirrors and Doors sent Michael Christian, an antiques restorer, to do the job. They knew just what to do.

Cheers!
Dawn

I love the woodwork on the mirror. It's gorgeous and looks wonderful where you've placed it. The cats look as if they love the new location too.

What an awesome mirror! I love the way you framed the clock in the mirror and the cats on the table.
