My Sister's Visit

My sister came to visit us last weekend. She's actually toying with the idea of moving to Austin so we showed her some of the sights within the limited time she had with us. Here are some nice things we saw while she visited.

One of our first stops was Georgetown, Texas. We admired this unique flower bike-rack...

One of the most beautiful buildings in Historic Georgetown is the Old Masonic Lodge...

Near the Town Square was a sweet secret cottage tucked away on a wooded lot...

The next day we took her to see the view from Mount Bonnell. From up here you can see Town Lake...
Below is the ubiquitous tree-on-a-cliff photo. Yes, it's a cursed cedar, but it still looks lovely...

On Sunday we dropped by Wimberly, Texas for a little shopping. We always have to visit the whimsical metal animals by Lloyd Burns. I liked these saber-toothed tigers...

Then we said hello to the ducks on Cypress Creek...

This area is a favorite spot to swim during the summer.

This is a whimsical fellow...

The cypress tree on the left is huge. I wonder how old it must be...

The water was very green, but we saw some fish that were at least a foot in length.

As we were leaving I admired this planting of violets and kale by the road. Amazing how well it survives with all the fumes from the cars driving by.

There is certainly a lot to see in and around Austin. I wonder what stories that little hidden cottage could tell?

Looking foward to my visit for the spring fling,

Sounds as though Austin is a great area to live in. Like Carol wonders about cottage and its stories, I was wondering about the old tree. They always fascinate me. We were out gardening all weekend. Stella watched, I worked. It was a lot of fun. Take care, Andrea

Dawn, one of these days I'll have to get to Wimberly! You've mentioned it before as a nice day trip. I'm glad you got to take your sister around Austin and wonder if she's leaning more toward moving here after you gave her the tour and the spiel...also am Jealous [with a capital 'J'] because it's been a few years since my sisters came down to Austin.

I hope you convinced her, Dawn. Or should I say, I hope Austin convinced her. It would be wonderful to have a sister in town.

Annie, Wimberley is a lovely little town to visit. You should get out there. I still prefer Gruene though.

What a wonderful tour, I am glad you took us along. I love the bicycle rack with the flowers. It is nice to make a utility object so pretty.

Wow that is quite a tour. You must have driven 100 miles. Did you keep track? There is so much to see in and around Austin. I find it helps to have out of town visitors, otherways we just stay at home all day.

Hi Carol,
I hope you have a wonderful time at the Spring Fling. There is indeed a lot to do in and around Austin.

Dear Andrea,
The cottage captured my imagination. I'd love to go back and get some better photos. The tree is very large and old. I hope your Spring gardening is going well. :-)

Hello Annie!
You would enjoy Wimberly. I'm surprised if you haven't been there yet. My sister does seem to want to move here. Austin sort of sells itself I think. It doesn't need my help. Heehee. Now if I can get my parents down here too, I'll be doing very well.

Hi Pam,
She's convinced. She simply needs to find a good job before she can quite the nice one in Tampa and move here. It's a matter of logistics. So, if you know anyone who needs a talented, attractive, single, hardworking, energetic lady manager sort just send word. :-)

BTW, I haven't been to Gruene yet. If you prefer it, Pam, I think that will be my next stop.

Thanks Lisa,
The bicycle rack is unique. I love it when they make something functional beautiful as well. Nice touch.

Hi MSS Zanthan Gardens,
I didn't keep track, but we doubtlessly drove hundreds of miles. It was fun. My son's favorite part -- aside from the whole experience of seeing his Auntie again after 2 whole years, of course -- was getting to ride on the little train, The Zilker Zephyr. It was good fun.

Cheers!
Dawn
