Giving Thanks

November weather has been pleasant here in Austin. I really enjoy autumn. My parents are coming down to visit us for Thanksgiving, which should be fun. I won't be blogging for a week or so, but in the meantime here are some photos from my last visit to Natural Gardener Nursery. Enjoy!

The butterfly garden in all its glory.

By far this blue mistflower was the most popular plant with the butterflies that day. We counted at least 7 varieties of butterfly on one bush.

There greenhouse holds various tropical plants.

These red berries near the climbing vines reminded me of Christmas.

The metal chickens made me laugh.

My son prefers the real thing. He'd just given these chickens some grass which they slurped up like spaghetti.

The donkeys were waiting patiently for their supper.

While their newest garden cat was fast asleep inside the main building.

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Oh I'm so glad you got a photo of those butterflies just covering the blue mistflower. That's exactly how it was the day Margaret and I visited but I didn't have my camera with me. I don't think I'd ever seen so many butterflies in one place in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dawn,

I want to second the line:

"And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!"

Have a good one!

Mary

Yep - those butterflies are why we all plant the mistflower even though it has a tendency to roam.

Could the red berries be Pam's Barbados cherries? If my plants ever made any cherries this might be more than a guess.

Have a great Thanksgiving with your family, Dawn!

I am jealous when I look at your pictures showing sunshine. Here it has been gloomy November partially with snow. This cat is beautiful; I think I'd keep it inside the house. :-) Andrea

Hi Lisa at Greenbow!
We had a very pleasant Thanksgiving with my parents. I hope yours was just as lovely.

Hey MSS!
I was amazed by the number of butterflies as well. The nursery was out of mistflower plants the day I took that photo, but I went back last week and bought one. I hope the butterflies are as excited about it in my yard as they were at the Natural Gardener.

Dear Mary,
I don't think it stayed off my thighs, but it was delicious. :-)
Hope your holiday was just as yummy and that your weather is improving.

Hello Annie!
You're probably right about the red berries. I couldn't find an ID tag at the nursery that day since this was planted in the ground. They were very attractive, though. Thanks for the name! :-)

Dear wildlife gardener,
I agree about the kitty. She has a sweet nature and is very pettable.

Hi Andrea!
I hope the sun comes out for you very soon. It is cooler here, but there is no snow.
You're right about the cat. I keep both of my cats inside so they will not get hurt by cars or animals. The birds feel safer when my cats are inside as well. ;-)

Happy Gardening!
Dawn

I love the metal chickens, what great fun. I especially liked the sleeping puss cat, but then I'm partial to puss cats!!!!
